Reconsider Comfortable

Anyone that has taken off their socks and shoes at the end of a long day knows that going barefoot is comfortable. You can stretch your toes, let your feet breathe and maybe even rub some of the soreness out of them. Why not experience that comfort as much as possible?

The reason that it is such a relief to kick off our shoes is because our feet were meant to live that way! Our feet were never meant to be regularly stuck inside shoes -- let alone shoes that squeeze our toes together and make our feet a painful, crumpled mess. Sure, there are shoes that are more comfortable than others, but in the end they are all still shoes. They all still make our feet uncomfortable to some extent, and it always feels better to take them off.

The comfort from going barefoot even extends beyond how our feet feel. The more that we allow our feet to relax, the more we relax, too! It's harder to feel stressed when barefoot. If we don't have to be constantly reminded of cramped toes, pressure sores and blisters due to our shoes, we can focus on more important things.

Reflexologists base a lot of their practice on the feet. It turns out that the feet are one of the few areas of the body with a very high concentration of nerve endings. We're talking thousands of them! And it's widely believed that reflexology can help soothe and even cure ailments throughout the rest of the body. Walking barefoot acts as a casual and unofficial form of reflexology. As our bare soles feel the ground beneath us, those nerve endings get stimulated and send positive feedback to our whole being from head to toes -- or in this case, toes to head.
